What’s the difference between Public and Private training?

Our Public courses are for individuals, and anyone can attend. They provide the opportunity for you to mix and share experiences with peers from other technology companies. Scheduled every few weeks, there’s sure to be a convenient date.

Our Private courses are for companies and organizations, and we recommend seven or more delegates to make them cost-effective. These courses can be customized for your business and are a great way to get your whole team ‘on the same page.’ Private courses can be online (to bring remote workers together) or on-site/in-house at your offices.

How much does a course cost?

Our public product management course pricing is shown here on our calendar. You can pay in £, € or $.

Our face-to-face public courses run in major European cities and are priced slightly higher than our live online courses.

If you’re interested in pricing for a private course, please get in touch.

How long does a training course last?

An online training course typically runs for 5 consecutive days during a week. However, it’s only 5 hours per day (either morning or afternoon sessions) with lots of breaks in that period.

Our face-to-face courses typically run for 3 full days.

Is the content for the online and face-to-face courses the same?

Yes – due to the COVID pandemic, we have adapted our training offering, like many organizations. Whether you attend one of our face-to-face or online courses, the content is the same. Our training is part of a body of knowledge that is consistent best practice across all our courses. It is delivered by senior-level product managers who are highly experienced trainers, with in-depth experience in a wide range of companies and industries.

Do I have to complete the Product Management & Product Marketing or the Driving Product Growth course before attending the Leading PM course?

No – but it’s useful to have some formal product management training, and you do need to be leading or aiming to lead a product management team, department, or function.

If I need to cancel for work reasons, what are your cancellation fees?

Cancellations must be made in writing (e.g., by email). Our standard terms are as follows:

  • Cancellation 30 days or more before the course/workshop – full refund
  • Cancellation 15 to 29 days before the course/workshop – 50% refund
  • Cancellations less than 15 days before the course/workshop or “no-shows” on the day – No refund
  • If you cancel or transfer your course booking within 10 days of the scheduled start date, Product Focus reserves the right to impose an additional fee.
This fee is in place to cover expenses that cannot be recouped and associated administrative costs.

If I book on a course but can’t attend for Covid reasons, what are the T’s and C’s?

We incur various costs when running a training course. We don’t like charging cancellation fees, and if we can resell your place, we won’t charge you anything. See further information here.

Do you offer in-house/on-site courses?

Yes – our flagship product management course can be delivered on-site at your offices and customized to suit your needs. Product Focus is the preferred training partner for many organizations. We have the scale and experience to run everything from one-off training courses to a partnership encompassing multi-year training and support programs that successfully embed new ways of working. There are a variety of private training benefits – view them here.

Are your courses all in the English language?

Most of our training courses are in the English language.
However, we also have an exclusive partnership with ProduktManageMentor to offer our product management training and services in the German language. To learn more visit here.

How many people are on a course?

We limit the number of people on our courses to a maximum of 18 delegates on face-to-face training and online courses. This ensures we can interact with all the delegates, answer their questions, and maintain the pace of the training.

Can I attend the Driving Product Growth training course by myself?

For maximum value, we recommend you attend with 2-4 team members across functions – typically an experienced product manager plus marketing and customer success colleagues. Solo attendance is also welcome.

Do I need to complete the Product Management & Product Marketing or the Leading PM course before attending the Driving Product Growth course?

No – but you should have several years of product management experience and know the fundamentals. Ideally you will already have received some formal product management training.

Booking

How do I get a VAT receipt for my credit card booking?

Once paid funds have cleared in our account (typically 7-10 days), we will send you a paid invoice for your credit card receipt.

Should I select request an invoice?

Yes – if you are confident your accounts payable department can process payment within our standard terms, which are: before the course runs or 30 days from the invoice date, whichever is earlier. Please note you need to book with a company email address to be invoiced. If you are self-funding, you must pay by credit card.

What are the terms and conditions for a public course booking?

General

What is Product Management?

Product Management is the job of looking after a specific product/s within a business. It’s a role that sits at the very heart of an organization, balancing the need to deliver value to your company (usually profit) with what customers want and what’s technically and operationally possible. That means coming up with a product strategy, thinking about what to build (Product Development), and working out how to market and sell the product (Product Marketing). To learn more about what’s involved within product management, click here.

What is the difference between a Product Manager and a Product Owner?

In summary, a Product Owner is a role within the agile software methodology of Scrum and focused on developing the product. A Product Manager looks after the whole lifecycle of a product, including working out what the right product is for the business. However, our experience is that job titles and responsibilities vary greatly from one company to the next.

If you want to learn more, sign up for free access to our Toolbox, where you can view our webinar, which explains the roles, why there can be confusion, and what to do if you face a challenge in this area.

What is the Product Focus Toolbox, and how do I access it?

The Product Focus Toolbox is an online store that contains all our industry-leading best practice resources in one place. It gives you easy access to high-quality resources whenever you need them. You’ll be able to view and download our Product Management Journals, Infographics, webinar recordings, tools, templates, reports, white papers, blogs, and book reviews. How much you can see will depend on the level of access you choose (free or full).

There are three ways to access the Toolbox:

  1. Create a free account to access a huge range of free resources – the deal is that we’ll send you an email each week about new content, upcoming webinars, and training. You can unsubscribe at any time from our emails and the Toolbox.
  2. Buy a one or three-year subscription to access the full range of resources that only alumni get. To do this, you’ll need to create a free account and then upgrade within the Toolbox.
  3. Attend one of our training courses and get a year’s full access to the Toolbox with your course.

Can Product Focus help with a product management placement/job after I complete the course?

Unfortunately, we do not offer a recruitment service.
